Green Spaces in Monks Orchard – Ashburton Playing Fields

Many of us are taking our daily exercise in our local parks, woods and open spaces, but how much do you know about our local green spaces?

Read about the history of Ashburton Playing Fields and the latest update on the Parklife Development in the first of our three-part series on Green Spaces in Monks Orchard.

Do you have a story about Shirley? Send us an email to hello@mo-ra.co and share it with us on our stories page.

Girlguiding – Adventures at Home

Girlguiding have launched their new Adventures at Home – Activities and adventures to keep yourself occupied during this difficult time – fun for kids, adults, everyone!

Being an adventurer is a state of mind – it’s being brave and determined, supporting others and finding fun in everything we do. And it doesn’t need to stop just because we’re staying indoors.

Each week they’ll be releasing eight new activity cards – two per age group or guiding section – that you can download and use at home.

You don’t need to be a member of Girlguiding to give them a try – they’re here so all young people can have a bit of adventure at this tough time.

We hope you are all making the best you can of the Easter break at this difficult time.

A big thank-you to everyone who helped us deliver letters in Shirley. We completed about half and once safe to do so again we hope to get the rest out. We have many signatures in and are processing them, and will give you an update as soon as possible.

In the meantime we have an update from DEMOC Chair Gerald Meredith-Smith for you to listen to:

A Message from Shirley North Safer Neighbourhood Team

Those of you who are staying at home and only leaving for occasional, ESSENTIAL trips out to care for those who need it, to go to the supermarket, and for key workers to go to work – well done and thank you. Think of it as being ‘safe at home’ rather than ‘stuck at home’.

HOWEVER there are still far too many people out and about when the country is supposed to be in lockdown.

Those spoken to who are not out for essential reasons can be given a £60 fine by police.

Please, please, please consider whether you really need to leave the house and only do so for the ESSENTIAL reasons specified by the government.

We all have a part to play in preventing the spread of Covid19.

Stay at home, Protect the NHS and Save lives.

We are now on Nextdoor and plan to use this for regular updates to ward members so please follow our page if you are already on Nextdoor or create an account I believe the following link should take you to our page and select Shirley North (we are still getting to grips with Nextdoor):

https://nextdoor.co.uk/agency/croydon-police/?i=xxmxpttsrpklmzyypml

There will not be any ward panel meetings for the foreseeable future so feel free to contact us via email or Nextdoor.
